Choose the most suitable one, and then refer to the following steps. You can easily turn off shuffle on Spotify on Android and iPhone devices. Run the Spotify app on your Android/iOS device. Open your playlist and unselect the 'Shuffle' button at the top. You have stopped shuffle on Spotify successfully. Spotify app is great on the car. Music quality is much better. However, I noticed that shuffle doesn’t work for me. Repeat isn’t checked but it always repeats the next song and doesn’t allow you to hit forward on steering wheel or screen to go to next phone either in my library or through playlists. Yes, repeat is not checked. I wish I knew the answer to this. I assume you are on Android. Spotify only seems to care about Android enough to keep customers. The default play button on iOS is PLAY, as it should be. Why does the Spotify app only shuffle through about 20 songs? Where their shuffle algorithm doesn't really do a good job. Well, shuffling. But the PS4 app has a unique problem where it seems to just choose about 20 songs and shuffle through them. Spotify shuffle is bad, but not that bad. Spotify's best-kept secret is that if you run the app on a tablet, you can listen to any song you want, on demand. You'll still have to contend with ads, but you're not shoehorned into shuffle. Music ain't what it used to be. That's largely for the better. Subscription streaming services like Spotify let you choose from an almost unlimited library of a few dozen million songs for a mere.

Download the Alexa app, open it, and link your Spotify account with these steps:

  1. Tap the menu in the top-left.
  2. Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
  3. Select Spotify, then Link account to Alexa.
  4. Enter your Spotify account details.

Set Spotify as your default service for music and podcasts so you don’t need to specify “on Spotify” at the end of your voice commands to play music:

  1. Tap the menu in the top-left.
  2. Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
  3. Tap Choose default music services.
    Note: To set Spotify as your default podcast service, tap Choose default podcast service.
  4. Select Spotify and tap DONE.

Note: You still need to say “on Spotify” at the end of commands to play podcasts.

Now just ask Alexa to play something! E.g. 'Alexa, play Discover Weekly'. Check out the Amazon help site for supported languages.

  1. On desktop, import your local files (with the 'Desktop' steps).
  2. Add the files to a new playlist.
  3. Log in on your mobile or tablet using the same WiFi as your desktop.
  4. Go to Settings > Local Files and switch on Local audio files.
    Note: You need to allow Spotify to find devices in the prompt that shows.
  5. Download the playlist with your local files.

Didn’t work?

Make sure:

  • You're logged in to the same account on both your desktop and mobile
  • Your devices are connected to the same WiFi network
  • The app is up-to-date on both devices
  • Your device is up-to-date
  • The Spotify app has access to your local network. Check in your iPhone/iPad settings under Spotify

For: Premium

  1. On desktop, import your local files (with the 'Desktop' steps).
  2. Add the files to a new playlist.
  3. Log in on your mobile or tablet using the same WiFi as your desktop.
  4. Download the playlist with your local files.

Didn’t work?

Make sure:

  • You're logged in to the same account on both your desktop and mobile
  • Your devices are connected to the same WiFi network
  • The app is up-to-date on both devices
  • Your device is up-to-date
  1. Click , then Settings.
  2. Scroll to Local Files and switch Show Local Files on.
  3. Switch off any sources you don't want.
  4. Click ADD A SOURCE to select another folder.

Music from that folder is now in Local Files in the menu on the left.

Supported file types

Note: Some of your files may be protected in restricted formats. Install QuickTime on your computer to allow most of these tracks to be played on Spotify.

  • .mp3
  • .m4p (unless it contains video)
  • .mp4 (if QuickTime is installed on your computer)

The iTunes lossless format (M4A) isn't supported.

If your file isn’t supported, we do our best to match it with songs from the Spotify catalog. The version we match with might differ from the original.
